Can you get a USD account for free in Pakistan?

Yes. HandlePay's USD account is free for the first year, then $25 a year. Elevate Pay and nsave's Standard plan charge no monthly fee, and freelancer accounts at Bank Alfalah and Allied Bank have no minimum balance. The account fee is the small part. What you pay to receive money and to turn dollars into rupees costs more.

A free USD account in Pakistan is easy to find in 2026. Several apps and banks now open one at no cost. The catch sits in two places the sign-up page rarely leads with: what it costs when a client pays you, and the rate you get when dollars become rupees.

Here is how the main options compare on all three, checked on 28 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • You can get a USD account in Pakistan without paying an account fee at several apps and banks.
  • The account fee is rarely the biggest cost. Receiving fees and the conversion rate usually cost more.
  • A 1% rate gap on $1,000 is about Rs 2,768 at the interbank rate of Rs 276.80 on 27 October 2026.
  • Payoneer charges $29.95 a year only if you receive less than $6,000 in 12 months.
  • Bank freelancer accounts let you keep $5,000 a month or 50% of export proceeds in dollars, whichever is higher. The rest is converted at the bank's rate.

Which apps give you a free USD account in Pakistan?

HandlePay, Elevate Pay and nsave all open a USD account without an upfront fee. HandlePay is free for the first year, then $25 a year. Elevate Pay and nsave's Standard plan have no monthly fee. All three give you US account details, so US clients can pay you by ACH instead of an international wire.

These three solve the same problem: a Pakistani bank account has no US routing number, so a US client can't pay it the way they pay a supplier at home. US account details fix that. Where the apps differ is everything after the account opens.

Elevate Pay says it charges zero fees to receive money and a flat $1.50 to withdraw to a Pakistani bank. The rate you get on that withdrawal is its own.

nsave has two plans. Standard costs $0 a month and includes ACH details for free. If you also want wire details for clients outside the US, that's $5.99 to set up and $0.99 a month. Pro costs $9.99 a month and drops those fees.

HandlePay gives you US account details in your own name for ACH, and SWIFT details for clients anywhere else. It's free for the first year, then $25 a year. When you want rupees, you cash out to any Pakistani bank at the Google rate, and it lands within minutes. Until then, your balance stays in dollars.

Wise is the name many people search first. Its help page lists Pakistan among the countries where you can't get USD account details.

Do Pakistani banks charge for a dollar account?

Often not, if you meet their conditions. HBL's foreign currency current account is free as long as you keep at least $100, and charges apply below that. Freelancer accounts at Bank Alfalah and Allied Bank have no minimum balance. Every bank still applies its own schedule of charges and converts at its own rate.

There are two kinds of bank dollar account to know about.

A foreign currency account is the classic one. HBL's comes in USD, GBP, EUR and CNY. You apply with your CNIC and proof of income, and you keep $100 in it to avoid service charges.

A freelancer account comes from the State Bank's 2023 framework, which lets banks open it remotely. It pairs a rupee account with a dollar retention account, called an ESFCA. Bank Alfalah opens one online through its RAPID portal, and Meezan through its digital account app. Neither Bank Alfalah nor Allied asks for a minimum balance.

The limit to know: you can keep $5,000 a month or 50% of export proceeds in dollars, whichever is higher. Earn $3,000 a month and all of it can stay in dollars. Earn $12,000 and $6,000 stays; the bank converts the rest at its rate. Meezan also notes you can't spend the retained dollars inside Pakistan in foreign currency.

Is Payoneer free in Pakistan?

Not fully. Payoneer charges an annual fee of $29.95 if your account receives less than $6,000 in any 12 months. Receiving into a USD receiving account costs 1%, with a $1 minimum, when USD isn't your local currency, and withdrawing to a local bank with conversion costs 1.2% to 4%.

Payoneer is still the standard route for Fiverr sellers, because Fiverr's payout methods run through it. For everyone else, it's worth doing the maths.

Take a freelancer who gets $1,000 from a US client into a Payoneer USD receiving account and withdraws it to a Pakistani bank. Under the fee page, 1% to receive is $10, and the conversion fee is somewhere between $12 and $40 more. Small payments also run into the annual fee if the year's total stays under $6,000.

If you're weighing a switch, our Payoneer alternative comparison goes through every option by who pays you.

What does a "free" USD account actually cost you?

Mostly the conversion. Each time dollars become rupees, the rate you get can sit below the interbank rate. A 1% gap on $1,000 costs about Rs 2,768 at the 27 October 2026 rate. On $12,000 a year, that same 1% is $120, nearly five times a $25 annual fee.

Account fees are easy to compare because they're printed on the sign-up page. The rate isn't. Banks convert at a rate they declare each day. Apps and payment companies use their own rates too. The gap never shows up as a fee line, but it comes out of your rupees all the same.

Here's how it adds up for someone earning $1,000 a month:

CostPer paymentPer year
1% rate gap at Rs 276.80Rs 2,768Rs 33,216 (about $120)
3% rate gap at Rs 276.80Rs 8,304Rs 99,648 (about $360)
$1.50 flat withdrawal fee$1.50$18
$25 annual account feen/a$25
Interbank rate of Rs 276.80 per dollar from Business Recorder, 27 Oct 2026. Gaps of 1% and 3% are examples, not any provider's rate.

So the cheapest account isn't the one with the lowest sign-up fee. It's the one where you lose the least between the client paying and the rupees landing. We broke down where that gap comes from in why you get fewer rupees than the Google rate.

Which free USD account should you pick?

Pick by who pays you, then by how you get rupees. US clients and remote employers who pay by ACH fit an app with US account details. Clients who wire from the UK, Gulf or Europe can pay a bank freelancer account. Fiverr sellers still need Payoneer. Then compare rates, not only fees.
  1. Write down who paid you last quarter and how. That decides which details you need.
  2. US clients, US employers paying you as a contractor, and platforms that pay by ACH: an app with US account details. HandlePay, Elevate Pay and nsave all qualify.
  3. Clients who wire from abroad: a bank freelancer account works, or an app with SWIFT details.
  4. Fiverr income: keep Payoneer for it.
  5. Compare what lands in rupees. Ask each provider what $1,000 becomes in PKR today, and set that against the interbank rate.

Remote workers are paid the same way as freelancers here. If your employer pays you as a contractor by ACH, your US account details work like any US payee. Not sure a USD account is for you at all? Read who needs a USD account.
