How to Withdraw Money From Upwork in Pakistan (2026 Guide)

Upwork gives Pakistani freelancers four ways out. The cheapest fee isn't always the most rupees. Here's what each method costs on $500, and how to pick.

To withdraw money from Upwork in Pakistan, go to Settings, then Get paid, and add a method: Direct to Local Bank (rupees to your Pakistani bank, $0.99), Direct to U.S. Bank (dollars by ACH, $2.99), Payoneer, or a USD wire ($50). Every new method waits three days before it works. Then withdraw manually or on a schedule.

The fee is the easy part. The rate your dollars become rupees at matters more, and Upwork doesn't publish it for local bank withdrawals.

What Upwork's help pages say, checked on 6 November 2026:

  • Direct to Local Bank: $0.99 per withdrawal, $5 minimum and $8,999 maximum for Pakistan, within four business days.
  • Direct to U.S. Bank: $2.99 per withdrawal if your tax address is outside the US (since 1 September 2026), two to five business days.
  • Payoneer: a "small per-transfer fee" from Upwork, plus Payoneer's own fees. Usually within 24 hours.
  • Wire transfer: $50 per USD wire, up to seven business days, plus any intermediary bank charges.

On a $500 withdrawal, the fees alone range from $0.99 to $50, a gap of about Rs 13,500 at the 6 November interbank rate of Rs 276.66, reported by Business Recorder. Pakistani freelancers earned a record $1.76 billion in FY26, State Bank data reported by Profit shows, so the method you pick adds up.

Key takeaways

  • Every new Upwork withdrawal method stays inactive for three days. Add it before you need the money.
  • Direct to Local Bank is the simplest route to rupees, but the conversion rate is set by Upwork's partners and isn't published.
  • Direct to U.S. Bank keeps your money in dollars. You need US account details in your own name.
  • The $50 wire only makes sense on large amounts. On $500 it costs 10%.
  • Withdraw less often. Flat fees shrink as a share when the amount is bigger.

How do I withdraw money from Upwork in Pakistan?

In Upwork, open Settings, then Get paid, and click Add a method. Pick Direct to Local Bank, Direct to U.S. Bank, Payoneer or Wire transfer, and enter the details. The name must match your verified Upwork name. After the three-day security hold, click Get paid now or set a withdrawal schedule so it pays out automatically.

Step by step:

  1. Go to Settings, then Get paid, and click Add a method.
  2. Choose your method and enter your details exactly as your bank or provider shows them.
  3. Match the name. Upwork says the account name must match your real, verified name. A different name is the most common reason a withdrawal bounces, as we covered in USD payment returned.
  4. Wait three days. Upwork keeps every new method inactive for three days "for security reasons."
  5. Withdraw. Use Get paid now for a one-off, or set a withdrawal schedule so payments go out automatically.

One timing detail matters in Pakistan. Upwork processes Direct to Local Bank requests made before 12:00 noon UTC the same business day. That's 5 pm in Pakistan. Request after 5 pm and it moves to the next business day.

What withdrawal methods does Upwork offer in Pakistan?

Four: Direct to Local Bank, which pays rupees into a Pakistani bank; Direct to U.S. Bank, which pays dollars by ACH into US account details; Payoneer; and a USD wire to a bank that accepts foreign currency. PayPal doesn't work for Pakistan residents, so it isn't a real option here.

Here's how they compare on Upwork's own numbers:

MethodWhat you getUpwork fee and timing
Direct to Local BankRupees, at a rate set by Upwork's partners$0.99; within 4 business days; $5 to $8,999 per withdrawal
Direct to U.S. Bank (ACH)Dollars, in US account details in your name$2.99 outside the US; 2 to 5 business days
PayoneerDollars in Payoneer, then Payoneer's rate to rupeesSmall per-transfer fee; usually within 24 hours
Wire transfer (USD)Dollars into a bank foreign currency account$50 per wire; up to 7 business days; intermediary fees possible

From Upwork Help pages, checked 6 November 2026. Fees change, so check Upwork before you withdraw.

Two Pakistan-specific rules from Upwork's local bank page: you can't add a company bank account for PKR withdrawals, and doing so "may result in failed/rejected withdrawals." Use a personal account in your own name.

Which Upwork withdrawal method is best in Pakistan?

It depends on whether you want rupees now or dollars to keep. For rupees with the least effort, Direct to Local Bank. To hold dollars or convert when you choose, Direct to U.S. Bank into US account details in your own name. Payoneer suits freelancers who also sell on Fiverr. Use the $50 wire only for large, infrequent withdrawals.

Pick by what you do next with the money:

  • You spend in rupees every month: Direct to Local Bank. One step, one small fee. Check the rupee amount against the interbank rate the first time.
  • You want to keep dollars: Direct to U.S. Bank. Your money lands in dollars and you convert later, at a rate you can see.
  • You're on Fiverr too: Payoneer, since Fiverr pays out through Payoneer. One account for both platforms.
  • You withdraw thousands at once into a bank foreign currency account: the wire's $50 becomes a small share. On $500 it's 10%, the most expensive route on the list.

If you have direct clients outside Upwork as well, the options widen. We compared every route in freelancer payment methods in Pakistan.

How much do you get from $500 with each method?

At the 6 November interbank rate of Rs 276.66, $500 is worth Rs 138,330. A $50 wire leaves $450, about Rs 124,500 before your bank's rate. Payoneer's 1.2% to 4% bank withdrawal fee costs Rs 1,660 to Rs 5,533. Direct to Local Bank costs $0.99, but its rate margin isn't published, so a 1% markup would cost about Rs 1,380.

The working, using published fees and the 6 November interbank rate:

  1. Interbank value: $500 × 276.66 = Rs 138,330. The benchmark, not a rate anyone pays you.
  2. Direct to Local Bank: $0.99 leaves $499.01. At interbank that's Rs 138,056. Upwork's partners add a margin they don't publish. If it were 1%, you'd get about Rs 136,676.
  3. Direct to U.S. Bank, then to rupees: $2.99 leaves $497.01 in dollars. What you get in rupees depends on where it lands. Elevate Pay, for example, charges $1.50 per rupee withdrawal, leaving $495.51 at its own rate.
  4. Payoneer to a Pakistani bank: Payoneer lists 1.2% to 4% for withdrawals to a bank with currency conversion. That's Rs 1,660 to Rs 5,533 on $500, plus Upwork's transfer fee.
  5. Wire transfer: $50 leaves $450, which is Rs 124,497 at interbank, before your bank's buying rate and any intermediary charge.

To compare, divide the rupees that land by the dollars you withdrew. That's your real rate, fee and margin included. We showed how to spot the margin in why you get fewer rupees than the Google rate.

How long does an Upwork withdrawal take to reach Pakistan?

Direct to Local Bank arrives within four business days, Upwork says. Direct to U.S. Bank takes two to five business days by ACH. Payoneer usually lands within 24 hours. A USD wire can take up to seven business days. Every new method first waits three days before your first withdrawal can go.

Earnings must also clear Upwork's security period before they show as available, and bank holidays on either side push timing back.

If a local bank withdrawal hasn't arrived after eight business days, Upwork can trace it. For an ACH withdrawal, contact Upwork after five business days.

Can I withdraw Upwork earnings in dollars instead of rupees?

Yes, two ways. Direct to U.S. Bank pays dollars by ACH into US account details in your own name, for $2.99 a withdrawal. A USD wire pays dollars into a Pakistani bank's foreign currency account for $50. Direct to Local Bank always converts to rupees, and Payoneer converts when you withdraw from it to a Pakistani bank.

Keeping dollars helps if you pay for software or courses in dollars, or want to choose when to convert.

For Direct to U.S. Bank, you need an account that gives Pakistani freelancers US account details. These are the ones AI answers recommend most for Pakistan:

ProviderGetting rupeesFees
PayoneerPayoneer's rate, built into its withdrawal fee1.2% to 4% to withdraw to a bank with conversion; $29.95 a year if you receive under $6,000 in 12 months
Elevate Pay"Know exactly what you'll receive in PKR" (rate not published)$0 to receive; $1.50 per PKR withdrawal
WorldFirstRate shown in your account before you confirm$0 to open or receive; withdrawal fee not published
nsavensave's rate, shown in the appFree ACH receiving on every plan; Pro plan $5.99 a month

Checked on each provider's own pages on 5 and 6 November 2026. Check again before you sign up.

Whichever you use, set up Upwork's Direct to U.S. Bank with the routing and account number it gives you, as a checking account. We explained what each field means in how to receive ACH payments in Pakistan.

How do I lower Upwork withdrawal fees?

Withdraw less often and in larger amounts, so flat fees take a smaller share. One $2.99 withdrawal a month costs about $36 a year; weekly costs about $155. Avoid the $50 wire on small amounts, and compare the rupees that land on your first withdrawal with the interbank rate.

Three habits that save the most:

  1. Withdraw monthly, not weekly. A withdrawal schedule in Upwork does this for you.
  2. Test once with a small amount. Withdraw $50 by your chosen method and work out the rupees per dollar. Do it before your first big payout.
  3. Don't stack percentage fees. On large amounts, a flat fee route usually keeps more.
